Project Two: Me, Myself, and Mom
For this project we were focusing on perspective. I already knew I wanted to cover the song Joey by Concrete Blondes, which is me and my mom's anthem so I figured I'd tie it into my project somehow. Using experiences my mom and I have shared, psychological facts about parent-child relationships, and my own creativity, I created a project that accurately portrays our differing perspectives on our relationship.
What I created:
To continue my goal of writing more songs, I wrote a song and recorded it along with my cover of Joey. The song I wrote was about my view of my mom and our relationship, it's a very emotional song with a lot of personal meaning to me and my mom. For my english portion, I selected a few songs and poems about parent-child relationships and annotated them using my interpretation of the lyrics and lines. This helped me find creative ways to insert emotion into art and that translated in the song I created. Finally for history I did research about parent-child relationships and the psychology behind them. Looking at how parenting styles can effect children and how adolescence can change the dynamic of their relationship with their parent. I then used this research in my blog about my mom. I also added in a piece written by my mom to include her perspective.
Perspective in my Project
In this project, I incorporated my own perspective, my mom's, and the perspectives of other artists as I interpreted them through annotating lyrics and poetry. I showed different views through the songs I recorded and I included an entire piece written by my mom to show her perspective. I think I did a good job of piecing together different points of view to cover differing experiences within the same topic.
